Yes! We have a community social network, and if you’d prefer to dive straight into this experience, click this link and register.
What is a social media and what is it for?
Digital social networks are a practical tool for connecting people online. On them, we can organize ourselves and share news, ideas, events, and much more. It’s a space to discuss any topic relevant to the community and also to preserve our shared stories (our memories).
But why another social media?
At the heart of our initiative is the idea that each tool should be owned and managed by our community. We should own our data, the rules should reflect our community’s agreements, and the platform should evolve towards our collective dreams (in terms of functionality). We haven’t been able to meet these prerequisites in big tech social networks like X and others.
But our social media is not isolated; It is part of a network called the Fediverse. The Fediverse is a growing network of independent and autonomous social media platforms. This means our users can reach (follow, like, boost, etc.) any user on any other platform connected to the Fediverse.
So, how can I participate?
To participate in this social network as a user, read the Code of Conduct, register, connect with other participants, and start posting interesting content. If you want to contribute by energizing the network and making it grow, share the link with other olim, search for and promote relevant community initiatives (such as events, practical activities, and so on). And if you tech-savvy person and want to improve this tool, get in touch and let’s get to work!
It’s important to mention that our platform is still experimental and therefore subject to bugs and improvements. We chose the federated social network Bonfire as the open-source base for our project, mainly because we believe it is aligned with our goals. Learn more about Bonfire’s tools at this link.
So, what are you waiting for? See you there!
